Hi there. Thanks for joining me. Today is a solo episode and I'm really happy to have you here with me. I've been thinking a lot about connection and reflection lately in that I don't always get enough nor do my clients, my colleagues, my friends, and you, my dear listener. It's easy to get wrapped up in our own heads.
It's easy to get caught up in the status quo of doing, doing, doing, and, you know, taking tasks off our lists. And since the start of this year, 2024, I, I found myself in a bit of a fog, lower motivation than my typical go get 'em lower energy, more procrastination. And then compound that with at least two really bad colds and you know, it's been a recipe for blah.
Then June came along. Oh, beautiful June. This is the month that sees spring give into summer. It's the month that delivers the longest day of the year, and it's the month that gives me juicy raspberry colored peonies in my backyard. And this year it's also the month that gave me a huge and much needed dose of connection and reflection.
It kicked off with a mini retreat with a good friend and fellow entrepreneur. We met in the small town of Collingwood, Ontario for lunch and sat on a beautiful Friday afternoon in the bright spring sunshine, eating nourishing food and batting ideas and opinions and plans around like they were tennis balls 24 hours later, and we were on our way home fueled by hours of conversation, interspersed with writing and just admiring our surroundings.
The impact, a deep sense of gratitude and new calm. A feeling of being less alone in my head. Well, the next week found me traveling to Prince Edward County, Ontario for a retreat with a wonderful client group that I work with. We reflected together on the previous year. We shared ideas and hopes and plans for the year ahead.
On top of that, incredible food was enjoyed in a gorgeous setting. Rainy hikes were completed, art pieces were created, and heads were laughed off. The impact, a deep sense of gratitude and new calm, a feeling of being less alone in my head. And why does it matter to feel gratitude, calm, and less alone in my head, well, it matters because these feelings give me energy in a gentle way, a no stress way.
The summer is seasonally slower in my business. And part of me is stressed about this in the past, but I've learned that this slowdown is a necessary season for me in my work. It is perfect for allowing me to step back, to reflect, to connect with friends and family and colleagues more often, all of which leads to fresh ideas, bigger dreams when I'm rested and ready.
So, dear listener, I hope what I've shared has helped spark some fresh thoughts for you today. Where might you make space for more connection and reflection in the near future? What might that give you? Here's wishing you some fruitful reflection, some fun moments with the people you care about, and a truly beautiful summer.
